Have you ever seen a car commercial that goes beyond just “Yeah buy this car plz” that really made you FEEL something? Something that has to do with the broader history of the brand, its context, the country it comes from, etc?
I’d love to see more like these; these are some of my favorites:
1) FIAT: This is in Italian; I know there’s one out there with English subtitles but I just can’t find it. You can sort of get the idea without them though. It basically talks about how Italy has to decide what its future will be, if it will have others decide for it, or if they will forge a path forward using creativity, art, etc (I think this one came out at the height of their economic troubles, so you can understand how it would make someone swell with pride and hope.) I think the text at the end says, “The things we make define who we are” and then “The New Panda; this is the Italy we like” (literally “This is the Italy that pleases”) more or less. Really cool.
2) Acura: Oh man. The music on this one, the text with the running road, all the sequences of the old Acuras building up to the new NSX...just...wow. If I were the CEO of Acura, and my advertising people showed me this, I’d just be so proud. It’s so amazing to see the progression from fun little commuter cars to these high-tech supercar behemoths. Just amazing. I can see how followers of the brand would just eat this up. The little brand that could.
3) Pagani: Those roads. (Looks like Sardinia to me) That car. That soundtrack (I think it’s that “Two Steps from Hell” band that is very popular in advertising/epic/orchestral music). It really encapsulates that perfect, idealized vision of Supercar + Italy. Very relaxing/surreal sort of feeling.
4) Lamborghini: Similar soundtrack...but with added Aventador soundtrack. And Rome. Driving in formation. Just...there are no words. Incredible.
5) Mazda: I’m not usually a huge fan of car commercials that focus more on the driver or a “lifestyle” more than the car itself, but I think this one does quite a great job of illustrating just how brand loyalty is built, and how cars can play such a role in many of life’s milestones. I forget who said it, but there’s a quote that goes something like, “If you wear a different perfume every year, you’ll never forget any period of your life.” Well, cars are a bit more expensive, but the sentiment seems to hold true. Plus, Miata.
6) Subaru: In Japanese. Poor video quality, but whatever. Similar to the Mazda one above, this one says that once the spirit of the motor enthusiast enters, it never really leaves. Sort of a Japanese take on the “My dad left me his muscle car, I take him out in it whenever I can” sort of tale. The little die-cast car and the “let’s go for a ride” sentiment sort of reminds me of Fast & Furious too, haha:

Doesn’t get more ‘murrican than this. And even though, as a stereotypical European, I have no idea what to use such a thing for, this makes me want to buy one ASAP.

#5 was the first one that came to mind. So many feels.
There was that Toyota Camry one that they ran during the Super Bowl that was just soaked in attempted tear-jerking bullshit. Zero success with me.

Great combination of soundtrack and natural noise…plus those exhaust flames! I hope they build that thing.

The last part of this Merc film reminds me of that Subaru ad...(Should be autoqued, if not start at 12:57 or where the W221 part begins...
